Privacy Notice

NeighbourHub connects neighbours with local businesses over WhatsApp. This notice explains, in plain language, what personal information we process and why, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

What we collect

From businesses that apply to be listed: business name, contact person, WhatsApp number, email, address or area, working hours, website and social links, a description, and any logo or photos you upload. We only collect this when you submit it yourself, with your consent.

From customers using the WhatsApp number: the messages you send so we can reply with results. For our statistics we do not keep your number in readable form: sender identities are stored as one-way hashes, and phone numbers or email addresses inside search queries are redacted before anything is saved.

Why we use it

To create and run business listings, to connect customers with the businesses they ask for, to count referrals so listed businesses can see the value they get, and to keep the service safe from abuse. We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for advertising to you.

Where it lives

Data is hosted with trusted processors: Supabase (database), Vercel (hosting) and Meta (WhatsApp message delivery). Access is restricted to the small team that runs NeighbourHub.

How long we keep it

Business listing details are kept while the listing is active. If a listing is removed, we delete the details within a reasonable period unless the law requires otherwise.

Your rights

You may ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. The quickest way is to message us on WhatsApp and a real person will help you.
